The next day, my teacher asks us about the cooking day. “What did we do first, next, and then?” she asks.

I remember: first, we washed fresh tomatoes, carrots, and peppers for the salad.

My friend remembers: next, we made sandwiches with cheese and bread, and some students used peppers for a spicy flavor.

Then, we cooked noodles and pasta — the pasta had a delicious smell.

After that, we made a fruit salad with grapes and mangoes. It was sweet and a little sour.

We also remember the snacks — nuts, chips, and yogurt. My teacher says a healthy meal should have some nutritious food, not just snacks.

Someone remembers the bean salad with beans and potatoes too. It was not sweet, but it had a nice flavor.

“What did we eat last, at the end?” my teacher asks. Finally, we ate hamburgers, ice cream, and our special meal together.

“My favorite part was the fruit salad,” I say. “It was a sweet snack.”

My teacher smiles. “Great! You remembered the sequence — first, next, then, after that, and finally.”
