The next day, my teacher asks us about the zoo. “What details do you remember?” she asks.
I remember the elephant. It is a big mammal with a long trunk. It lives in a habitat with grass and trees.
My friend remembers the lion. A lion is a predator. It hunts other animals, like the zebra.
The zebra is prey. Zebras stay together in a herd to stay safe.
We talk about fur, feathers, and scales. The tiger has fur. The parrot has feathers. The crocodile has scales.
“A crocodile is a reptile,” I say. “It is not the same as a mammal.”
My teacher smiles. “That's right. A mammal and a reptile are different animals.”
We also remember the claws. The tiger has sharp claws. It uses them to hunt.
Some animals, like the lion, live in the wild. Other animals, like the zebra, live in a herd.
My class makes two groups: Mammals and Reptiles. We put the elephant, lion, tiger, and kangaroo in the Mammal group.
We put the crocodile in the Reptile group.
“Which animal is a predator, and which is prey?” my teacher asks. We share our answers together.
It was fun to remember all the details from our trip to the zoo.
